All companies in the KD portfolio address an unmet medical need. A company is typically founded on an innovation with a strong IP position, i.e. patent application. A unique process or skills that are difficult to replicate may however, replace cases with limited IP protection.

Portfolio companies are primarily selected on the merit of their projects and the feasibility of concluding a development program through to a suitable proof of principle (POP). Pharmaceutical as well as medical technology applications are pursued irrespective of therapeutic use provided the innovation addresses a distinct medical need.

Initially most of the companies have a cost effective virtual organization until POP. This is achieved by using experts from within the KD network who contribute to several companies on a part time basis as well as using CROs and CMOs. The operative support by KD starts immediately and recruitment of the management team is gradually intensified to meet a more complex environment as projects mature.
